The veteran defender will hope to impress Peter Vermes

John Mensah is to undergo a trial with MLS side Sporting KC, sources close to the player have informed AllSportsNews.

Mensah, 32, boasts a wealth of experience in the European game having turned out for the likes of Sunderland, Lyon and Rennes.

In recent times he has been back in his native Ghana with Asante Kotoko, but is now seeking a new challenge abroad in Major League Soccer.

Set to undergo a trial with Peter Vermes’ side, ASN understands that the MLS club will face stiff competition from the middle east.

It is understood the Ghanian is also keen to reignite his international prospects with a move to the United States and once again become captain of the Black Stars.
