Back Serena to make it five-straight two-set victories over Vinci
Having won for the 55th time in 59 matches in 2015 by overcoming her sister, Venus, on Tuesday night, Serena Williams trades as bet365’s massive 1/25 favourite to progress past world No.43 Roberta Vinci on Thursday and seal her spot in a fourth consecutive US Open final.
Vinci, priced 10/1 to score what would be a seminal upset, comes into this match on solid form and with an impressive hard-court pedigree.
The Italian’s quarter-final defeat of Kristina Mladenovic, for instance, was her 25th win in 45 matches since the start of the year, she reached her 13th career final at the WTA Nuremburg in May and she warmed up for the US Open by reaching the last-eight of the WTA Istanbul, the quarter-finals of the Canadian Masters and the last-16 of the WTA New Haven.
Furthermore, 2 of the Italian’s 9 WTA Tour-level titles have come on hard-court, she has won 16 of 26 matches in the surface since the start of the year and she has been a quarter-finalist at the US Open in two of the previous three seasons.
That said, she has lost all four of her previous matches against Serena in straight-sets, most recently going down against the world No.1 in the quarter-final stage of the Canadian Masters last month.
Furthermore, where Serena has won the last three US Opens and the last four consecutive major championships to take her unbeaten record up to 26 at Flushing Meadows and 33 at grand slam level, Vinci has won a career total of 18 matches at the US Open and 42 at grand slam level.
Tip
This only going one way: back Serena in two-sets at 2/11.
