Stephen Smith fails to pick up the IBF super-featherweight title

Boxer Stephen Smith has failed to emulate the success of his brother Liam by losing his IBF super-featherweight title fight to defending champion Jose Pedraza.

Smith would make it through until the end of the contest, but would clinch the tie on a unanimous points decision, with the judges scoring the bout 17-110, 116-111, 116-111 in favour of the Puerto Rican.

This defeat leaves Smith’s life-time record at 23-2, as he failed to become the 13th Briton to become a world champion in his selective weight class.

Smith’s brother Liam is one of those 13 men – with the Liverpudlian currently holding the WBO light-middleweight championship.
